Mixed Media Installation – A work in progress

These are sample images reflecting my current explorations of my heritage of the Filipino culture and how it relates to my identity through a variety of materials…

Transformation, a Midnight Dinner

At the end of semester, I co-hosted a midnight dinner with artist Alexia Benavent-Rivera, which is a collaborative art and food project working with other members of my MFA cohort. It consisted of a four-course meal fusing together my Filipino roots to the Puerto-Rican, Panamanian, and Ukrainian roots of Alexia to create a delicious menu and new experience. My personal goal for this project was to connect to my own familial history and ancestral past and express my understanding of it through food, allowing participants to taste the flavors of the Philippines and engage the meal through kamayan.
